Wheaton North High School Bands
We are students, we are leaders, we are musicians; together
we are the Wheaton North Band Program. Whether through our
concert, jazz, or marching programs, we all have a common
goal. Our mission is to discover who we are and who we
want to be. We strive for musical excellence. Our high
expectations compel us to promote the art form of music.
We continually establish and perpetuate traditions through
which we develop strong relationships and mature. Musical
performance helps us grow more confident and develop pride
in ourselves and our program. Music helps us develop our
emotions and express who we are; even after the music ends.
Music is what we love and that’s why we play it.

Congratulations to the 2011-2012 Wind Ensemble!! I’m really
proud of your accomplishments to date; and now I get to announce
the BEST yet!!
It’s no secret that every year I apply for our groups to perform
at major events. The Marching Band has gone to Walt Disney World
and the Jazz Ensemble performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in June of 2009. Most recently, Wind Ensemble has taken
center stage performing at Carnegie Hall, the Illinois Music
Educator Association State Convention, and the Midwest
International Band and Orchestra Clinic. This year, Wind Ensemble
has been accepted as one of only fifteen groups from around the
nation to perform in the 2012 Music for All National Festival
(formerly known as the Bands of America National Concert Band
Festival)! This festival, along with Midwest, is one of the most
well-known and respected music festivals in the Nation! Only the
very best groups in this country are selected. This is the
crowning achievement for our music department in the last several
years.
I cannot stress the uniqueness and importance of this opportunity
enough. Not “just anyone” can play at this festival, this is a
once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity. This appearance is synonymous
with a successful program. We have the full support of Ms. Bullo
our building and district administration. The festival makes up
a multiple day trip to Indianapolis which will include clinics,
performances, and the opportunity to hear some of the best high
school groups in the country as well as the Honor Band of
America, the Honor Orchestra of America, and Honor Jazz Ensemble
of America. This is a big deal! It is the most professional
performance that any of you will have had to this point in your
career, beyond IMEA and even the Midwest Clinic last year. The
only thing that comes close to this is our Carnegie Hall
performance a few years ago.The National Festival runs from
March 15-17, 2012.
There will be some student/family expense for this excursion. We
do not yet have our performance date or the final price of the
trip. I will get you the information as soon as possible. Please
know that the final cost will include ALL meals, transportation,
workshops, and commemorative CD's and DVD's and the cost of it
is set by Music for All. They keep in mind (and I totally
understand) that this kind of expense is a stretch for many
households. So they keep the price pretty low for everything that
is included. Rest assured there WILL be several fundraisers to
help defray cost, which students should take every advantage of.
And we will have a reasonable monthly payment schedule which will
be spread from September to late February. DO NOT ALLOW THE
PROJECTED COST OF THE TRIP TO DISSUADE YOU! If it seems
absolutely financially impossible, please let me know.
This is an opportunity that we cannot pass up or back out of.
We have already received our results, WE’RE IN!!!!!! Please
discuss it as a family and if you have questions, please EMAIL me
at jnoworyt@cusd200.org.
Congratulations to Laura Skow and Isaac Stough who were selected for the Illinois Music
Educators Association All State bands. Laura was a member of the Honor Band and Isaac was
first trumpet of the All State band. We are very proud of our Falcons!!
Mr Noworyta also participated in the IMEA conference this year. He presented a session for
college students on "tips for Surviving Student Teaching." His session was very well-received
and very well-attended. He has been asked to present it again on several college campuses to
all of their music education majors.

Maureen Miller said her son likely would have thought he didn't deserve a Medal of Honor. To Army Staff Sgt.
Robert Miller, an act of self-sacrifice would have been just another part of his duty to serve the country,
she said.
A HUGE thank you and much appreciation go to both the FALCON BOOSTER
CLUB and the FALCON BAND PARENT ORGANIZATION. These organizations have
always supported the efforts of our band and music department, but this
year they really stepped it up!!!
Drumline has always been an important part of the school spirit at WNHS
and the FALCON BOOSTER CLUB recognized the hard work of the Marching
Band and Drumline by funding the purchase of ALL NEW DRUMS for the line.
These new (deep BLUE) drums replace equipment that is almost as old as
the students who play them!
Hand-in-hand with the Booster Club, the FALCON BAND PARENT ORGANIZATION
has purchased new harnesses and carriers for the new drums, as the new
equipment will not fit our current carriers. These new, light-weight
harnesses will also add much to the drumline.
Much gratitude goes out to both of these fine parent groups. Thank you
so much for recognizing what the bands to at Wheaton North! We couldn't
do it without your support!
